AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Going green is doing more than helping the environment, it's catching a lot of attention.
"We've quit buying bottled water, because each bottle obviously there's so much plastic, so we've all gotten better about learning to use our tap water honestly more so than bottles," Anna Wilson said.
There's all sorts of ways to go green, like detergents that say they are ecofriendly, non-toxic spray cleaners that are biodegradable and made from all natural ingredients, using washcloths instead of paper towels, anything that will cut down on waste.
"In many senses it's a lot more important with the economy and waste to be more conservative, obviously makes more sense," Wilson said.
Grocery stores now offer hundreds of green products on their shelves. Some of the items like Green Works glass and surface cleaner might cost a little more than the regular merchandise.
"You gotta look at it this way, when you spend that extra money you're investing in our future and also the environment," Kroger Store Manager, Christian Brander said.
One of the most popular items are the re-usable grocery bags. Say goodbye to plastic. You can buy one of these for 99 cents and use it over and over.
"I've bought some of the green products and I don't have any of the bags, but we just started recycling so maybe that will lead me in the right direction," Elizabeth Brooks said.
And as more shoppers like Elizabeth Brooks move in the green direction, more and more green products are coming out and that's good news for shoppers .
"I think it's extremely important. If you can do what you can by buying these products then you might as well," Brooks said.
