AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Candye Smith with Give it 4ward is back to spread the love. She took more than $400 in prizes to the young people at May Park. Parents say the timing was perfect.

"Happy Valentine's Day," Smith said. "I'm excited."

Smith is back with a car load of Valentine's Day gifts for some unsuspecting students.

"I'm going to spread the love," she said.

Smith grabbed an extra pair of hands and we were off to the classroom.

"Hello boys and girls," Smith beamed. "Happy Valentine's Day."

The class, at first, is a little caught off guard.

"My name is Candye and I brought all of you some goodies for Valentine's Day," she said with a smile. "How do you like that?"

"Good!" cried one lone student.

But it is not long before the entire class is beaming with excitement.

"I can't find the words to explain how much it means," said parent Shenequa Robinson. "It has been really crazy."

Robinson's daughter, like most of the children at May Park, come from Augusta's River Glen apartments.

"I can't even take my daughter outside. I'm afraid to take her outside," Robinson said. "I don't want to sleep near the windows."

Two or three fatal shootings have rocked the complex in just the past few months.

"They need something to uplift them from all this negativity that is going on around them," Robinson said.

Leave it to Smith to do just that. This called for a group hug.

"You all are so sweet," she said.

Mom and daughter were pleased.

"She is going to love it," Robinson said. "She is going to talk about it tomorrow and the next week she is going to say Valentine's ... Channel 12."

Smith has one special reminder.

"You never know where Give it 4Ward will show up next," she said.

This was all made possible thanks to your donations to Give it 4Ward. The Quest Church in Martinez also got in on the action. Their Sunday School class put together homemade Valentine's Day Cards for all the students.
