Give it 4Ward: Easter basket surprise

News 12 at 11 o'clock, April 4, 2010

AUGUSTA,Ga---Candye Smith is back. This time she has an Easter surprise for a local church youth group.

"Oh my goodness. Look at that," exclaimed George Grant who is director of social services at Good Hope Baptist Church.

Candye Smith surprised Mr. Grant with a trunk full of Easter baskets for the church youth.

"They will greatly appreciate that," said Mr. Grant.

"I am happy to do it," said Candye. "That's what Give it 4Ward does. We go out, and we randomly surprise people."

The kids were elated.

"I'm picking out this one," cried the children.

Pretty soon they were doing cartwheels.

"Things come to you when you least expect it," said Mr. Grant. "The timing was just right...Easter Sunday."

Mr. Grant has been Giving it 4Ward to the kids for the past 12 years.

"Absolutely," said Mr. Grant. "Free of charge. We feed them three hot meals everyday."

"Domino effect," replied Candye about the concept of Giving it 4Ward. "Someone blessed me and told me to go out and get Easter baskets for the kids. It's working."

It is all thanks to your donations.

"People call me. They email me. They say we want to give," noted Candye. "We want to participate. What are you gonna do next? I want in. Let me do it."

The response is always great.

"From me. From the church. From the Good Lord," said Mr. Grant. "Thank you so very much."

"I'm just getting started," said Candye. "You never know where Give it 4Ward will show up next."

20 young people went home with a basket full of treats.
