I love to highlight new products, especially in the produce aisle. Some of the products may not actually be new, but they are new to our location or store -- and that is good enough for me.
Lately I have been seeing adorable baby peppers (mini sweet peppers). These are so exciting to me because I love anything mini and the size of these make them just right for snacking. I mean, really, that is a dietitian's dream ... people snacking on mini-sweet peppers. The size also makes them great for kabobs and stuffing with couscous, other veggies and creamy cheeses. Otherwise they can be used just like regular bell peppers. They are a bit sweeter and milder in flavor but have a great texture. Keep them in the refrigerator up to one week.
A couple other products have caught my eye this season and the first of these is the Quaker™ Real Medleys™. This is an individual-flavored serving of oatmeal. It does have some added sugar and is more costly than buying plain oatmeal, yet it is less costly than going through the drive-thru. So that makes them a nice pantry staple or desk staple to keep on hand.
Next up is the Silk® Fruit and Protein Juice beverage. This actually tastes quite good! Well, the mixed berry flavor did anyway -- I have not tried the others. It is lactose, dairy and cholesterol free. It has 5 grams protein (a bit less than milk), but I love that it is fortified with both calcium and Vitamin D, not to mention 100 percent Vitamin C. Adequate calcium and Vitamin D can sometimes be a challenge for those avoiding dairy. Fruit flavors are provided be frozen fruit juice concentrate, and it reminds me of a smoothie.
