Eating Well With Kim: Popsicles Hit The Spot

Frozen treats and summer just go together “like traffic and weather”. Okay, excuse the corny introduction into this topic. But on a HOT summer day a good Popsicle sure does hit the spot.

Fortunately, the Popsicle selection at the store is much improved these days.

Here are some of my top picks.

Greek yogurt pops:

These are great because they have about 5 g proteins plus calcium and live active cultures. In addition I did not see any with artificial colors which is a nice bonus. These do contain added sugar, but it was minimal and this is a summer treat after all so a little sugar makes sense.

Real Fruit Bars:

I love these because they are outright DELICIOUS. There are many brands (some with higher sugar than others) to choose from. Again most of these did not contain artificial color (a few brands do still use artificial color) The bottom line is to read the label and choose those without the artificial color and the least amount of sugar.

Dole Banana Dippers:

These are delicious also, although they are a tad high in the saturated fat for a “snack” at 3.5grams per serving. I like them because they are fruit and the saturated fat comes from the chocolate so even if you made them yourself you could not make them lower in saturated fat. As long as you keep portion control in mind (one package) I think these are a delicious dessert addition to the summer freezer.
