As a whole the grocery industry introduces approximately 15,000 new products a year. Only 25% of new products remain in the store for more than 3 months.
Here is a sampling of products that have recently hit the market, are nutritionally improved, and may be worth taking home.
Sweet Potato Fries: Sweet potatoes are wonderful because they taste great AND have a tremendous amount of vitamin A. One serving (3 ounces) usually provides 100% of your vitamin A, 16% of your vitamin C and a little potassium as well.
Most sweet potato fries do have some added flour and fillers, so they are not 100% sweet potatoes, but they are still a reasonable choice and a good change from the standard white potato fry. Be sure to bake versus fry these for optimal low fat enjoyment.

Frozen Butternut Squash: Butternut squash puree is a wonderful find in the grocery store. I love it when convenience and nutrition are NOT mutually exclusive. Squash puree is about $0.27/per serving and makes adding squash puree to baked goods or using it as pasta sauce a cinch. Each serving has: 80% daily value for vitamin A, and 2 grams of fiber for 30 calories.

Frozen Fish Meals: Trying to get more fish in your diet? Here is one delicious way to solve that problem. Some healthy meal entrees have emerged with new fish options. They use Alaskan Pollock, which has a sweet, delicate taste and is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acid. The sodium content is reasonable for an entire meal and ranges from 440-540mg. Add a piece of fruit and you have a delicious lunch or quick dinner and are on your way to 2 servings of fish per week.
