Eating Well With Kim: Cool Product Review

Here are a few of the items that caught my eye this week.

The Larabar—Bite size:

This is the 0.78 ounce portion. I love these for two reasons.

The first is wholesome ingredients. For example the Apple pie flavor has dates, almonds, apples, walnuts, raisins, cinnamon.

Emerald Nuts 54325:

The second is the smaller size which means fewer calories. The calories in the flavors available in this size range from 90-110 per bar. This makes it a perfect snack for the average exerciser. We don’t need granola bars with a meals worth of calories—but a grab and go snack does help the average exerciser get to the next meal without hitting the vending machine.

Another great idea for a healthy snack to tie you over to your next meal is a handful of nuts. Yet, we all know how hard it is limit ourselves to a small handful of nuts. The solution to portion control in this case is prepackaged 100 calorie nut packs by Emerald Nuts. The packs up with almonds only or a mixture of almonds and walnuts together—delicious!

In addition to snack packs the “nut” industry is getting creative with flavors, nuts come with cocoa, or cinnamon sugar varieties now. Some of these will have artificial sweeteners, so read the labels and pick the brand that has the right sweetener for you. My favorite so far is Blue Diamond Dark Chocolate.

Chia Seeds

Lastly, I noticed Spectrum’s Decadent Blend Chia AND Flax with cocoa and coconut. There is a trend as we have noted before, for increased flax and chia seed consumption and how nice is it to have them combined with none other than our favorite flavor CHOCOLATE. I think I may try adding this to oatmeal, smoothies, and puddings---yum.
