AUGUSTA, Ga.--- One of America's most famous veterans will be coming to Augusta later this week. Chances are you won't recognize Sammy Davis, but you've heard his story.

Davis is an American hero. Winner of a Medal of Honor for his bravery in Viet Nam. And that part of his life became one of the story lines in the movie "Forrest Gump".

In an interview for the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, Davis talked about November 1967, the night he became a hero.

"There was a foxhole there, and instead of one man in it there were three men in it. Well, I knew I didn't have the strength to make three trips, it had taken about 45 minutes to make it to that point, and I was just gettin' so tired, so I asked the man above to give me the strength to carry all three brothers at one time."

Even though Sergeant Davis was wounded himself, he was able to make it across a river and save the lives of those soldiers who were too wounded to make it out.

He'll be in Augusta for three days with appearances at Augusta Prep, Episcopal Day School, Westside High the Augusta Exchange Club, Fort Gordon and the annual Boy Scout Dinner at St. Pauls Church "River Room."
