AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Entire families out on Tuesday morning to honor the men and women who gave us the freedoms we have this day. Veterans were out to remember their friends who didn't make it back home and the kids were out, taking in the sights with smiles on their faces.
Veterans Day is a day off from school for students in Richmond County, but it certainly was not a day wasted.
"I feel good and I just get to joyed and overjoyed and stuff," says 8-year-old Anthony Hunt.
"To see the Marines and everybody fighting for the country to make it a better place," says 3rd grader Talia Thompson.
Seeing those kids and even the littlest of kids out on this Veterans Day brings lots of smiles to Vietnam War Veteran Winston Harris. "It just makes me feel good all over," says Winston. "It means the world and all to see the active military come by and parade down the street."
Standing tall next to him is World War II Vet Ray Lundquist. "I came out here in respect for the fellas I served with, that didn't make it back," says Ray.
The National Anthem playing at a separate ceremony, a paying tribute to those who did and didn't make it back from war.
"Thank you, thank you for helping our country have a better day," says Talia. She's happy today is a better day because it's a day of freedom.
"We got a lot of brave men and women in the war," says Winston. "A lot of brave men and women that went through the war."
On Tuesday, this Veterans Day, there were bands in harmony, Armed Forces united, flags blowing in the win and people grateful for today.
"Y'all did good," says Anthony. "Y'all fought for the war and y'all did everything, so just keep on working!"
