AUGUSTA, Ga. -- As the year comes to a close, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is still trying to find killers in eight different homicides.
Augusta started the year off with seven unsolved murder cases from 2010.
Authorities say solving murders is a tricky thing.
"Murders always kind of do their own thing. They don't typically stick to the trend," said Cpt. Scott Peebles. "We may have 50 next year, we may have 10 ... we don't know. We're going for 10, though."
Peebles says they depend on the public for a lot of the information they receive. He also says drugs play a big part in the murders within Richmond County lines. At least 12 murders this year involved drugs.
