D.U.I. charges filed in deadly Aiken crash
The driver blamed for a crash that killed two South Carolina college students has been charged with Felony D.U.I., troopers said Friday.

AIKEN, S.C. -- The driver blamed for a December car accident that killed two students home on Christmas break has been charged with two counts of Felony D.U.I., troopers said Friday.

Steven Corley has been charged in connection with the December 29 crash on Highway 302 outside of Aiken, South Carolina Trooper Judd Jones said in an e-mail.

Alex Bush and Katie Scott were returning from dinner in Aiken and driving back to Scott's home in Couchton. Witnesses said Steven Corley was speeding and trying to pass people when he crossed over the center line and struck the couple head-on.

Bush died that evening and Scott died the following afternoon. The couple was home on Christmas Break. Bush studied at the Charleston School of Law and Scott was a student at the College of Charleston.

A charge of felony D.U.I. is defined as driving a vehicle while under the influence and causing the death of another person. There is a mandatory fine of $10,000 - $25,000 and a prison sentence of one to 25 years under South Carolina law.
