NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---A former North Augusta city official accused of molesting a young boy 30 years ago is out of the hospital after an apparent suicide attempt. Investigators continue to build the case against Ed Meloan after the 74-year-old was arrested last Thursday (July 5) and charged with a lewd act on a minor.

Meloan was hospitalized over the weekend after his wife found him unresponsive in their home with empty pill bottles nearby.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says the investigation is ongoing, and they're asking anyone with information about the case to call (803) 642-2076 or e-mail sledinvestigation@sled.sc.gov.

Law enforcement sources tell News 12 they've had a number of people coming forward with information.

Before his time on the North Augusta Planning Commission- Meloan was host of "Shock Theater," a late night horror show on WRDW-TV during the 1970s.
