Georgia death row inmate dies, under investigation

ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia Department of Corrections officials say a death-row inmate who was injured in an "alleged suicide attempt" last month has died.
Spokeswoman Sharmelle Brooks told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday that 43-year-old Timothy Woodrow Pruitt died at Augusta State Medical Prison on Sunday.
Pruitt was sentenced to death for the 1992 rape and murder of Wendy Vincent, a 10-year-old Lumpkin County girl.
Brooks said Pruitt's injuries were sustained at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson on Nov. 19.
She said the "alleged suicide attempt" is still under investigation.
