COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 42-year-old inmate who walked away from a minimum security prison in South Carolina has turned himself in.
Escaped inmate Vernon Gardner surrendered at about 5 p.m. tonight to S.C. Department of Corrections investigators in Lumberton, N.C.
Gardner, who walked away from Coastal Pre-Release Center in Charleston Monday, is being transported to Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, S.C., a maximum-security prison. Gardner faces felony escape, a charge that carries up 15 years in prison.
