AUGUSTA,Ga. -- A man is free out on bond after being charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.
Twenty-seven year-old Charles Oglesby was released on 25,000 bond on Thursday. On June 11th - he was charged after construction worker William Danes was struck and killed by Oglesby. Hearing the news has certainly upset the victim's family.
Malissa Frederiksen, William Danes' sister lives in Florida. News 12 spoke with her by phone on Thursday after she heard the news. She says she's afraid Oglesby may hurt someone again.
"My brother had all his chances and choices ripped away from him in a split second," says Frederiksen. "You get a second DUI, and you don't get a second chance you are in jail, you don't get bail you are in jail for a period of time."
News 12 obtained document that show Oglesby pleaded guilty back in November 2007 to driving under the influence. He received probation and a fine for the offense. Danes' family members say they are afraid that Oglesby could receive a similar sentence.
"My brother will never get to see his family did my brother get a bond from death? No, my brother didn't. And Charles Oglesby shouldn't have gotten this bond from jail either,"says Frederiksen.
"This was not this guy's first DUI," says Angel Donath, William Danes' mother.
"He hit my son. My only son. It's ripped my heart out, I don't even care if I live or die anymore. He was my pride and joy."
In the state of Georgia - usually only 10 percent is required to make bail. Another hearing has been set to start Oglesby's trial.
