SARDIS, Ga -- The Burke County Sheriff's Office tells News 12 they responded to a hostage situation call at an apartment complex in Sardis.
Deputies tells us a relative called and was concerned about a woman threatening to leave with her kids and possibly harm them.
When investigators arrived they talked with the mother and asked her to show that the kids were okay, she did but refused to let deputies into the home.
Later investigators went into the apartment and found the mother in a bedroom and the children, a 1 year old boy and 4 year old girl in another room. The children are fine and the mother was taken to the Burke County Hospital for a mental evaluation.
DFACS placed the children with a relative.
