AIKEN, S.C. --- News 12 has learned fired Aiken County Deputy Jeffrey Nation is under investigation for another incident, the third during his time at the department.
The first problem came back in 2004 when Deputy Nation was suspended for 3 days because of excessive use of force.
The second problem came on Saturday, September 6th when Lawrence Ingram was trying to kill himself and called for help from EMS and the Sheriff's Office. Turns out Deputy Nation went to the call to help EMS and Ingram says he was anything but helpful to him; and he has the wounds to prove it.
If you look at Lawrence Ingram's head, he has stitches in one spot and staples in another. He was distraught and tried to kill himself, so he called for help. Some of the help came from EMS and from fired Deputy Jeffrey Nation.
"When I came out the door with a knife in my hand, he was standing there and I went to go down and said, I'm going to go ahead and get it over with," says Lawrence. "Then, that's when he hit me in the chin with the flashlight, started beating me all in my head."
Four days later, staples in Ingram's head.
"A man like that don't need to be in any kind of police," says Ingram.
Now, he's not in the department anymore. Sheriff Michael Hunt firing Nation for his role in a third incident, that happened Sunday evening, September 7th. www.wrdw.com/home/headlines/28117779.html
"I just don't understand why people do things like that," says Lawrence.
Deputy Nation says, in an incident report News 12 has obtained, says Nation tried to hit Ingram's right forearm to make him drop the knife, but he missed and hit Ingram in the head. Then, Deputy Nation shoved him to the ground, where he hit wooden steps with his head.
"What was I thinking? What's wrong with this man? What is he doing to me? I said, oh my gosh," says Lawrence.
Now, Lawrence is left in pain and Sheriff Hunt is keeping quiet, for now.
Sheriff Hunt says the bottom line is, he expects his deputies to deal with people based on the law and when they don't, he deals with them appropriately.
In the DashCam video case with Deputy Nation, it was found he did not act appropriately, and he was fired on Tuesday. He was also arrested and charged with Assault and Battery, along with Misconduct in Office. He was arrested and freed on bond on Tuesday.
