BURKE CTY, Ga.---The Burke County Sheriff's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating the deaths of two people in Burke County. It happened just before midnight on Ben Hatcher Road.

Authorities say they got a call around 11:04 pm about a domestic dispute between Gary Scott and his wife Calandra. Before deputies could get to the scene, they received another call. The caller told them that Scott shot his wife.

When deputies got to the scene they found Calandra Scott in front of Fairfield Baptist Church, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

A source close to News 12 says the shooting happened in front of the children, and one of their daughters made the call to police. Shortly after, the source says Gary Scott stated he was going home to kill himself.

Investigators followed the man to his home. Neighbors say they heard gunshots coming from the house. Deputies believe that Scott killed himself, making this a murder-suicide.

The case is under investigation by the Burke County Sheriff's Office and the GBI.

Relatives have taken the children.

My family and I are the cousins of Calandra. I feel like people are going to believe and say what they want. We shoud be focused on the family and especially the children b/c they are not w/o a father & a mother. I can't imagine how they are feeling and how their life is going to be affected by this tragedy. I can't imagine loosing one parent but both at one time, it would be devastating. Kids, you guys are in my prayers, please keep your head up and put God first b/c you're going to need him. The road ahead is going to be tough. GOD BLESS!!!

I am the God-mother to one of the children. I am really sadden about it all, but I sure wish that wrdw would take this false statement off their web-site.This is not the way the incident happened and I would sure hate for the children to read this. We should be praying and asking if the family needs help, cause they will, and stop with all the lies.I am related to the father and the mother was a dear friend of mine. I loved them both and I'm going to miss them so much. We all have made mistakes. He without sin cast the first stone.(para-phrase)Let's pray and think of the children and not of ourselves.

Pastors in the churches need to be educated about Domestic Violence so they may help families that is going through DV. It appears they are afraid to preach on DV. My heart goes out to the family. Their lives is sending a message to all of us.

I knew Calandra from working at Verizon & I knew the Scott family very well also & my heart and prayers go out the the family & friends. I'm still in shock & just can't believe this has happened. She's got three beautiful children that are really going to need all the love, support, & prayers that we can give because they are now without a mother & father. I will continue to keep you in my prayers & I pray that God gives you strength. I know it's going to be hard but just remember God will see you through this.

so was it a murder suicide or not? how can they get the story wrong if the kids saw the husband shoot the mother and the father kill himself, doesn't take a seasoned reporter to get that info if the witnesses state so, especially the kids

Posted by: cindy Location: north carolina on Sep 4, 2008 at 10:05 AM
I am going to say WRDW is going downhill with the reporters and the blunders they make..for example the Marcus Finklin story and so on. These are young reporters but come on ...they need help.
