AIKEN COUNTY, Sc -- "I drove by it without knowing, which is the worst thing, I think. Seeing an accident and not realizing it’s your own child; it’s horrifying," said Kim Davies, Brenden's mother.

Horrifying that Kim Davies' son Brenden Wilson was in a Jeep Cherokee when it crashed into a tree on Jennifer Drive Saturday morning. But the hardest part for Kim is trying to figure out why Aiken Public Safety chased her son for so long.

"They shouldn't keep chasing them. The person is running from them, they're scared of them. It's murder. They ran him into a tree. They took my son," said Kim.

But Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno says his officer was doing his job..

"Officers have to make those decisions to protect the motoring public that's innocent out there from the people who drive reckless or drive under the influence," said Lt. David Turno.

The car was snapped into two pieces on impact, the back now facing the front of the car after being wrapped around a tree. Lt. Turno says this could've all been avoided.

"This offender, Mr. Wilson, simply could've stopped and none of this would've happened. He may have spent the night in jail but he wouldn't be where he is today. Our sympathy goes out to him," said Lt. Turno.

Something both law enforcement and Brenden's mother can agree on.

"I just think he got scared that they was going to jail. I wish he was in jail right now," said Kim.

But instead, his family must now plan his funeral.

The Aiken County Coroner says toxicology reports are pending. Lt. Turno says bags of marijuana and scales were also found inside Wilson's car. The chase and crash were caught on dash cam that's now been turned over to the South Carolina Highway Patrol who is investigating the crash.

The officer involved in the chase was not physically hurt but Lt. Turno says the officer is undergoing counseling after what happened. In the meantime, Aike Public Safety is conducting its own investigation into this accident

This is the society that we live in where it always somebodys else is at fault because the prisons are full of innocent people dont you know. When you get a vehicle your have to obey the law and thats it we lost so many young lives to speeding, drinking and doing drugs but its not there fault and god will have the last say on what you do with your life and how you live it for it was free choice so make the right one lifes to short. To the officers who put their lives on the line for us it hardly seems fair to judge them. They have a job to do and you don't hesitate to call them for help when you have an emergency. Sorry for your loss hope this messsage saves one person from making a bad descion.

Well Amy, ashamed I am not: I am also a mother of 3. that is true but I think and i guess you would to being you are a mother of 4..I would be alot more hurt than she appeared to be on tv, I wouldnt even wanna be on camera at a time like that, and to put the blame on a police officer..she should be ashamed.so you are the one who should keep ignorant comments to your self. and by the way I dont even drink.

I say this for alot of people. Brenden we love you and miss you, i dont care about anything negative you people have to say...he was a good friend, a son, a brother, a boyfriend and he will forever be in our hearts. it really shouldnt have been this way and we arnt going to forget you. Mrs.Davies, i cnt imagine what this is like for you. you, aaron, alan and the rest of the family are in my prayers. this never should have happend. =[

What are we waiting for. Here is a perfect example of blaming others for your actions. If we dont stand behind our our POLICE OFFICERS [to serve and protect]for doing there job then what do we need them for.You dont think he feels bad for doing his job? Brenden made the wrong choice not the officer. We have to work as a society to encourage our children,no matter what age,to think about the consequences of there actions.Stand up for whats right.

It appalls me that the news would air comments like "It's Murder". I think that is a little on the side of yellow journalism. The officer was doing his job. He did not make the guy run. If the police allowed everyone to run from them, what person would ever stop for the police? We would have lawlessness in society.

I am so sorry about your loss if it would have been the cops son he wouldn't have ran him into a tree. When he relized that it was out of control he should have found a different way to go about the problem this is a sad story. But people this is the truth put yourself in her shoes!

Are you kidding "Posted by: Augusta Location: Augusta on Aug 25, 2008 at 10:19 AM" = Would the only reason you would be out late at night or early in the morning be because you were out drinking. As a mother who has raised 4 children I have had to make midnight runs for tylenol, cough syrup, picking up my girls when the team bus from N.A. HS broke down coming from Lexington, SC, returning from a 500 mile drive to visit my sick grandmother in N.C. - Many reasons to be out at night and I don't drink even "sociably". Keep ignorant comments to yourself in the face of a mother losing her child regardless of how it happens. You should be ashamed.

I feel for this mothers loss of her son, however, this is not the vault of the officer. If they did not chase criminals can you imagine how many places a day would be robbed, or how many drunk drivers there would be on the streets because they would say, all I have to do is run from them and they can't chase me. It is time that people take responsibility for their own actions. The fact is, this young man was responsible for his own death. Not his mother (someone commented lack of teaching in the home) nor the police. As a parent you try to raise your kids right but sometimes one of them might do something stupid even if you raised them better than that. Your family is in my prayers. I pray that some young person will learn something from this mans death.

I really feel soooo sorry for this family, may god be with them. But I have one question: what was the mother doing out at 3 a.m. anyway..Was she also drinking and driving at that time of the night??? She sure didnt seem too hurt about her son...

My heart goes out to you as you've just lost your child. However, it's not exactly fair that you say they should've quit chasing him. What if it had been the other way around? What if there was a drunk driver that they quit chasing and he had hit and killed your son? Then it would probably be different. And you'd be saying that they should've chased that driver and pursued him until they got him off the road. I truly feel bad for you and I'm sure I don't exactly understand your grief as I have never lost a child. However, you've got to understand that police officers are doing their job getting drunk drivers off the road. What if your son had hurt someone else, much less killed someone? It's just sad that he didn't take the easier road of consequences. I'll pray for you and your family.

First of all, he should have stopped when he saw the blue lights. Age does not matter. If you are not guilty of something, you STOP for a blue light. He kept going and speeding. There could have been more police cars, but that does not mean he would have stopped. You can not stop a speeding car, if the driver does not want to be stopped. We as parents have to accept the fact our kids get theirself in these situations. This kid could have killed a innocent family while he was speeding. I am sorry for your loss, but the Lord has his reason for taking your son.

I'm sorry your son is dead, but if he hadn't been doing anything wrong, he's got nothing to be scared of. To say that they police murdered him is a way off base. He chose to run, and unfortunately for him, and you, he died. This not the fault of the police. My sympathies go out to all involved, to include the police officer.

This is so typical of the law enforcement in Aiken. They treat everyone as if they are second rate citizens. Always over exubriate. I'm sure this will be yet another comment against the law enforcement that will not be admitted. Car chase's that result in death! Yet they do anything about the gangs and drugs in crossland park.

You have GOT to be kidding! "It's murder. They ran him into a tree. They took my son" THEY,THEY, THEY. Never any personal responsibility for their own actions. It's ALWAYS someone ELSES fault that some one does something STUPID! That's why our society is becoming so SORRY and pathetic because people won't teach or accept personal responsibilty. I'm sorry that the kid died but you know what? We hear this same garbage every day...It's the TEACHERS fault little Johnny acts like an idiot in class and won't do his work. It's the missing DADDYS fault that Jamel broke into the neighbors house, defacated on the kitchen table and stole the jewelry. It's the evil gunmakers fault for the school shooting. Etc, etc. YOU are repsonsible for YOUR actions and quit blaming others for YOUR stupidity. I know this sounds harsh, but somebody's got to have the guts to say what needs to be said. Most parents, teachers, lawyers, and politicians sure don't. It's not my fault, THEY (fill in the blank)..

I agree with the officer, he shouldn't have been running away. The public expects the cops to chase criminals until they are caught no matter how long it takes. Everyone has seen cops and wild chases so we know how dangerous it can get, but in the end I sit back and say look at that idiot, he decided to run from the cops and ended up getting a worse deal!!! It's not murder, it's justice!!! Sorry for your loss Ma'am

Your child broke the law.A police officer was doing his job.It is sad that another person died. But it is also sadder that your child was running from the police. Why did he just not stop when told to?It comes from home trainning and teaching children that they are accounted for there own actions.

Very very sad. We'll miss Brendon - he spent his adolescence in Naples, FL - and feel awful for his mother Kim (who taught my nieces how to ride horses English style) and his little brothers and grandparents :-(

hello posting a comment about the car accident in aiken county i think that the police were protecting other citizens from getting killed so they were trying to stop the jeep but the mother thinks differently. Of course she's upset because its her son but if he would have kept going in that condition he could have taken other lives
