AUGUSTA, Ga. --- The mother of a former Richmond County inmate who agreed to wear a wire for authorities -says her son is not a liar - and that's why it was proven that Deputy Joseph Smalls made advances towards her son.

Those advances landed Smalls in jail.

News 12 spoke exclusively to the former inmate's mother about what happened behind bars.

"Its just a bad thing to be thinking about, you know when a person do something wrong to your children, you just keep thinking about it," says the victim's mother.

Her son is the person responsible for Deputy Smalls being in jail. He was convicited and sentenced to three years in jail. Smalls worked as a Jailer at Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Phinizy Road. Her son was an inmate there - and the focus of Small's attention. The inmate's mother says she worried for her son's safety - and also endured many restless nights.

She adds that she's glad Smalls is behind bars - but believes the sentence is too light.

"They should have given him more than what they did,"she says."But maybe he'll stop doing it what he done."

And as for her son,he's out of jail now but still dealing with all of this.

"He's doing alright but I know he will keep thinking about that man."

I think the imates mother needs to focus on guiding her son to be a productive citizen instead of thinking about a man who is behind bars.
