AIKEN - Another Aiken County narcotics investigator is off the job.

News 12 has learned Sheriff Michael Hunt has fired 37-year-old Daniel Gainey of Williston, South Carolina. An internal investigation found he operated a personal business while on duty.

Sheriff Hunt says Gainey also failed to properly complete time sheets for employees he supervised.

He started working for the sheriff's office in December of 2001, and he had only been working in the narcotics division since October of last year when four other narcotics officers were fired and one resigned.

Sheriff Hunt says Investigator James Crowell, Lieutenant Jonathon Owenby, Investigator Tim Roberts, and Investigator Luke Williamson took an unmarked county-owned car to a bar in Augusta.
They then picked up two women and went to a hotel.

A 5th narcotics investigator, Brian Owens, wasn't there at the time, but he later resigned because of it.

Many have side businesses they try to us to "legalize" money they extort and receive from Aiken County citizens and businesses. SLED needs to investigate deputies like Patterson. frequently visit the strip clubs in Augusta and Columbia

This is just an example of the dishonest cops we have working with the Sheriffs office. We have seen them lie on the witness stand just to make their case and mislead judges whenever they think its necessary. Mismanagement of timesheets is just another way of saying they were stealing from the Aiken County taxpayers.

Another corrupt officer who was just trying to use his so-called side business to justify the bribes. They will do anything to make a buck, even lie under oath.

I understand some disclipinary action needing to be taken but do you really think it was this necessary to publizie this to this point. I dont. And as far as the excessive force. well he was a narcotics officer. Look at what kind of people he dealt with on a daily bases. i personally think its a bunch of nonsense. I mean really, could this have not been handled in office. I guess not. I am assuming the sheriff's office seems to think it would look better if they put it in the public eye. Lets just slap this mans picture on the news and let him deal with everything that the SHERIFF'S office is doing wrong instead of standing up and taking resposiblity of the fact that we have no clue what is REALLY going on.
