RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga.---A 65-year-old man was left dead in the street. Investigators believe he was just an innocent bystander at the wrong place at the wrong time.
"He had nothing to do with it. He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Symone Davis.
At the scene of the crime, deputies had to hold these women back.
Just a day later, this family still is holding tears back.
They're remembering 65-year-old Johnny Davis, a father and grandfather. His daughter Symone tries to think of the good times.
"Everyone knew him when they see him. They call him Shorty because he was so short," she said.
Johnny called his family Monday to tell them he was gonna do one of his favorite things: play the lotto.
"He was gonna go play her numbers and come back home and that was the last time we heard from him," said Symone.
Before he could do that he went to a Luckey Street neighborhood to get paid for yard work he did.
What was supposed to be a routine trip turned dangerous.
"A good person, an innocent bystander just...had nothing to do with anything," Symone said.
Investigators say he was in his truck when two men started shooting at each other.
Johnny got caught in the crossfire and one of the men shot him in the head, killing him.
"I mean that's my dad. I started screaming and I was crying," his daughter said.
Now this family is trying to pull it together without him. At their home on Memory Drive, memories of him won't be forgotten.
"I just miss him being around me, coming into the house, calling my name," said Symone.
Something else this high school senior will miss is her father at graduation. But she knows, in a way, he'll be with her.
"He'll be watching. He'll still be there," she said.
Investigators have no suspects at this time. The suspect and vehicle they gave out earlier have been ruled out.
Deputies also found drugs at the scene but they had nothing to do with the shooting.
