AUGUSTA, Ga.---Deputies arrested a former high school band director, accusing him of child molestation and sexual assault.

"I went in his office and I sat down and he told me, 'Don't be nervous, it'll be all right.' So he turned out the lights and that's when it started happening," said an alleged victim, who talked to News 12, but asked to have her identity protected.

This student says she had sex in the Butler High School band room with her band director six to eight times a week. And she says it happened when she was fifteen years old.

Deputies say he had sexual contact with at least three victims.

"He would do it when...he didn't have a class. That's when he'd send me to come down there," the girl said.

She says they got away with it because he would send a note for her to go back to class.

Her mother says she suspected something about the time it started, back in September.

"I picked up on his [flirting] with her and I questioned her at that time and she denied it," said the mother, who also wanted her identity protected.

But her daughter recently came forward, saying she couldn't keep it to herself anymore.

"It was something we wanted to do, but it was still wrong. He knew that it was wrong," the alleged victim said.

She says another girl at the school told her Shelton wanted to go a step further.

"She just basically said that he wants to see would I do something with both of them at the same time," she said.

She says that never happened. But because of what she says did happen, her mother says Anthony Shelton deserves the maximum penalty.

"I think he's the lowest of the lowest," the mother said.

And her daughter says she's glad she finally came forward, because it gave others the strength to do the same.

"I wouldn't want no other child to go through what we had went through," she said.

Shelton is at the Richmond County Jail, charged with two counts child molestation and three counts of sexual assault against persons in custody.

Deputies say along with the three victims, three other girls have said Shelton made sexually explicit comments to them.

Deputies also say there could be more victims out there. They're asking anyone who feels they were a victim to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office or the Richmond County School Board.

This is so hard for me to accept about Mr. Shelton. I know him to be a caring and concerned teacher. I have abserved him with the students and I have never heard or noticed him act in any way but professional. I am deeply hurt to hear these allegations. My prayers are with all concerned. His family is just as much a victim in all of this as well as everyone else. Remember, just because a man is arrested does not mean guilt. Under the law he is innocent until proven guilty. If this is true then he should receive the maximum that the law allows but until it is proven true, don't presume. The media will try, convict and sentence before the trial. Pray for all.

There is no way he had the time to do something like this. The only free time he has lunch and 7th period and somebody is always down there with him. Has anybody asked the 7th period teacher if this was actually happening? I'm sure he/she would say no. During lunch either a male band member is down there with him or he goes home to eat. There is absolutely NO WAY he could do this because somebody (or bodies) is ALWAYS in the band room!!! There are also cameras in the band room, has anybody even bothered looking at those tapes?? You are ruining this man's reputation and personal life by falsely accusing him and putting it all over the news and in the newspapers. I don't give a **** about your first amendment rights!!! You should get the whole story and the whole TRUTH before putting someone on blast like that!!! If you knew the good this man has done in many children's lives, you would questions yourselves about this girl's "story". ITS ALL HEARSAY!
