Voices & Vibes: Waynesboro Walmart and Coca-Cola sponsor Oliver Vance Project

WAYNESBORO -- The Walmart in Waynesboro and Coca-Cola teamed up with the Oliver Vance Project at a book signing on Sept. 24.

Maurice McBride and Dr. Jessica K. Wallace, authors of the book "Oliver Vance Pull Up Your Pants," were present along with Anthony B. Jackson, the book's illustrator, and Oliver himself to autograph books and give kids the opportunity to do the Oliver Vance Dance.

Kids stared in awe at the mascot, parents fell in love with the book's theme - "having the courage to be yourself."

Copies of the book were sold, with proceeds going toward schools and homeless children around the Waynesboro area.

Walmart's store manager Steve Moss said his store and Coca-Cola got behind the Oliver Vance Project because of its positive message and take on the controversial issue that is prevalent throughout the nation.

McBride said that Oliver is expecting a sequel to his current book, a music video for the dance, an animated cartoon and Oliver finally pulling up his pants.

Until then, McBride, Dr. Wallace and Oliver say that kids should be themselves, do what is right -- and pull up their pants.
