AUGUSTA -- The use of racial slurs in hip-hop has been an issue since the genre's rise into the mainstream.

The "N-word" in particular has evolved from its former derogatory meaning to a term of endearment among African-Americans.

Having rooted itself in the culture of hip-hop, artists and listeners that have been conditioned to the genre's lifestyle use racial slurs in music and in everyday speech.

Even those of other ethnicities use racial slurs in reference to each other with no means of ill intent.

However, as hip-hop evolves, so does the diversity of artists who carry on its traditions.

As music changes along with its listeners, the use of racial slurs may continue to be an issue with or without a resolution.
