AUGUSTA, Ga. -- As the country gets ready for the 2012 elections, Augusta prepared young voters with a hip-hop campaign.

"Nobody is stepping up, so it takes people like us who have been out there to come and teach one so they can know what voting means," said Maurice Williams, one of the leaders of the Each One Teach One youth group.

Candidates for District One commissioner along with other leaders in the community stressed the importance of exercising an important right.

"We're just trying to get people to stand up and register to vote, and let them know their vote counts," said Duvalle "Flaco" Townsend, radio personality for Foxie 103.1.

Emmanuel and Phillip Hudson, a YouTube sensation with over 70 million views, also stressed the importance of staying in school and rocking the vote.

"Young people need to know what's going on as well. It's important that they all vote, so they can be in the loop," Phillip Hudson said.

Organizers referred to the audience as the "Hip-Hop Generation," one that is influenced a great deal by what is exhibited in the genre.

"With over 70 million people watching us, I believe we can lead by example," said Emmanuel Hudson.

Hopefully there will be a younger group at the polls this elections looking to turn it up with their votes.
