AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Hundreds of people filled the river-walk in Downtown Augusta Saturday night during the "Light the Night" walk to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma research.
The Georgia chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society was out with glowing balloons to pay tribute to those battling the cancer.
The participants walked two miles in Downtown and raised thousands of dollars for research to find a career for the deadly disease.
One team in particular who spoke to News 12, Cancer Schmancer raised $5,700 for Leukemia research and in honor of Shirley Owens, someone battling the disease.
Owens daughter, Angela Westenfeld was out with the rest of the family to take part in the walk, sporting pink cowboy hats and tiara's.
"Well the family time is great to be hanging out together," Westenfeld said. "But the main reason we're here is to raise money for the research so that new medicines can be discovered to save her and other people that are in the same situation."
It was a family affair for many of the teams walking downtown with balloons.
