Week 7 high school football thought

Here are some thoughts about week 7 of the high school football season.

First of all, where has the season gone? Seven weeks in already!

How about the performance turned in by Washington County? Their second half against Butler was pretty awesome. The Golden Hawks are always good and I know a lot of folks around the metro area thought the Bulldogs would have what it takes, but that's just the way it is this year. Butler should still win seven games but Washington County is a superior team on a weekly basis. No knock on the Bulldogs, just a fact.

WaCo is now on a collision course with Burke County. The Bears actually managed just 49 points this week. I say that seeing they were 50 plus the previous two games. When they meet Washington County, you may want to make plans on being there.

Toughest loss of the year has to go to Lakeside. I feel bad for them and they are the tough luck team of the season. Effingham County scores late and steals one at the home of the Panthers.

Fox Creek...still work to be done. In case you missed it, Calhoun County's quarterback is the brother of South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey. I guess the family had a good weekend!

Evans problems continue and its all on offense right now. They just can't find any consistency on that side of the ball and at times are struggling to score points. I know Greenbrier was up for that game and hey, give them credit in getting the win.

My rankings for the News 12/Augusta Chronicle Power Poll

1. Williston Elko

2. Washington Co.

3. North Augusta

4.Silver Bluff

5.Butler

6. Lincoln Co

7. Jefferson Co

8. Thomson

9. Aquinas

10. Swainsboro

The Tigers could easily be higher and likely will be after this week. Burke County is my last team outside the top 10 and will be there soon...probably next week. I still firmly believe Williston will win another state title but now I'm thinking a couple of other teams could make deep runs as well, namely, Washington County, Silver Bluff and maybe North Augusta.

Thoughts? feel free to post them and keep them clean.
