Week 6 high school football thoughts

Here are some thoughts about week six of the high school football season.

Let's start off with the North Augusta loss to Northwestern. To me, not a big deal at this point of the season. Sure the Jackets are disappointed, but Northwesterns is a team that's been there done that and North Augusta is still trying to get there. They will, and maybe when the games are a little more important in November.

Get ready for a heavyweight battle at Butler. Yes, I said at Butler. Washington County rolls into town and the Hawks are better then advertised. They hit hard, play hard and are a legit state title contender. Is Butler? Great question. We'll see Friday night.

What is going on with both Aiken and South Aiken? Now the T-breds are struggling and it's going to take time for Jeremy West to get things in order. Not just that, I just don't think they have the athletes. Meanwhile, I'm not sure what's happened to the Hornets. To start the year, they were gangbusters. Now, just trying to find a win, anywhere.

Speaking of which, the best win of the week may belong to Midland Valley. The Mustangs get a pick interception return for a score and come up huge in beating Airport.

What's the over and under on the points Burke County will score this week? 134 points in the last two weeks. Hephzibah better strap on the helmet pretty tight.

Finally, Thomson is playing Thomson football. Smash mouth, single wing, stop us if you can. ARC gave them a run, but the Bulldogs just wore them down in the second half.

Here's how I voted in this week's power poll

1. Butler

2. Williston Elko

3. North Augusta

4. Washington County

5. Silver Bluff

6. Jefferson County

7. Lincoln County

8. Aquinas

9. Thomson

10. Swainsboro

A couple of notes about my voting. I can't see dropping the Yellow Jackets that far after losing to the 2nd ranked team in the state of South Carolina. Williston is still possibly the most likely team in the CSRA to win a state title. Swainsboro will get a lot of state wide notice in the next few weeks. they're the real deal.
