So after looking at the state playoffs in South Carolina I found out one thing, Class 2-A is a joke. This is the first year they split into two divisions and have 48 teams in the playoffs. Only one problem, EVERY team has in Class 2-A has made the post season making the regular season irrelevant.
The post season should be for teams who played the best and earned the right to be in the mix for a state title. This is like having the NCAA basketball tournament open to 300 plus teams. It's pointless. There are a 48 schools that have made the playoffs, some of them, like Strom Thurmond and Silver Bluff have earned first round byes. Then you have others like Eau Claire who will play Friday night still searching for win number one on the season. Yes, you read right, they are WINLESS!!! How can a team go 0 and 9 make the playoffs? What's the incentive?
I know they are trying this new two division format out for the first time, but I certainly hope its the last time! I'm originally from New York and to make the playoffs you had to have at least a .500 record. In South Carolina, just show up, you'll make it. Eau Claire isn't the only winless team, there's at least one other.
How does a coach go about explaining that since you are so terrible in the regular season, you still get to practice another week and play in the post season? Yikes. Now imagine if a winless team actually wins one. Double Yikes!
Please South Carolina coaches. Fix this before it happens and you make a mockery of the playoff system.
