Talk about a team destined to win. It may be the only way to describe the Gamecocks of South Carolina on the baseball diamond. A group of young men who put differences aside, played for the betterment of the team, and walked away with college baseball's highest honor. Hats off to the now two-time defending national champs.
Coach Ray Tanner said all year his team didn't have the players that would dominate. Well when you go 10-0 in the CWS, I call that domination. What made this team different was they made every single play when the game was on the line.
Against Virginia, it was late inning heroics and an unbelievable pitching performance by reliever Matt Price. Then, they'd force the Cavs to make the mistake giving the Gamecocks the win.
Then against Florida for all the marbles, more heroics. Scott Wingo deserved the Most Outstanding Player award, but it could have gone to a half dozen different Gamecocks. Wingo's two defensive gems against the Gators were the stuff legends are made off.
How this team won it all is just a tick short of amazing. They always kept you on the edge of your seat, they always kept the heart pumping waiting for the next miracle play.
In the end, to the victor go the spoils and congratulations for a job well done in winning a second straight national title.
