Week 9 High School football thoughts

Here's some thoughts as we get closer to the playoffs

Wow, what a crazy Friday and it should only get wilder from here on out with the playoffs looming more then ever.

First, have to give a lot of credit to Evans. The Knights come up huge in beating Hephzibah and make it a three way tie for the region lead with Lakeside in the mix. In all honesty, it's likely the regular season will finish that way and we'll have a coin flip to see who has to play on the road that opening week. I talked with Evans coach Marty Jackson and no question he was concerned with how the Rebel defense was playing. But low and behold, they find a way to put a bunch of points on the board thanks to Jonathan Finch and company. Give a lot of credit to the offensive line that was able to hold the Rebels at bay.

Worry time at ARC. As good as they were early on, Chris Hughes was always a little concerned with his team's overall performance. Boy did it catch up with them losing to Cross Creek. Give the Razorbacks some credit. They aren't playing for a playoff spot but pride and it really showed getting the overtime win on Friday. Now ARC will have to dig deep to gain a little momentum before the playoffs. Oh yea, they play Hephzibah this week.

Washington County could be the best team in the area. Led by Montravious Gladden's monster game, the Hawks put mucho points on the board in beating Burke County. Beware anyone who has to go to Sandersville to play in the post season.

Have to also give a shout out to South Aiken. The Thoroughbreds are playoff bound and could actually get a home game depending on the outcome of Friday's game with Midland Valley. Will they contend for a state title, no, but hey, they've gotten better as the year has gone on.

Top teams in the area in no particular order.

South Carolina- North Augusta, Williston Elko, Strom Thurmond, Wardlaw, Silver Bluff

Don't be surprised if more then one of them end up playing for a state crown

Georgia-Washington County, Jefferson County, Evans, Lakeside, Hephzibah, and Swainsboro

Not sure how far they'll go in the post season but a couple of them could make a run.

Also need to give out a shout out to the "other" team in Sandersville, Brentwood. A quality win on Friday knocking Edmund Burke from the ranks of the unbeaten.
