Week 8 High School Football thoughts

Here's my take after week 8 of the high school football season.

First and foremost Lincoln County and Washington Wilkes is one of the top rivalries in the area, without a doubt. This past Friday proved that as the Tigers took the Red Devils to overtime before losing 10-7 in double OT. On paper a 0-0 game is not exciting, but not with these two teams. Even with Washington Wilkes being down this year, they always point to one game and find a way to make things interesting.

What has happened to Aiken? Who saw all these losses coming for Cary Johnson and the crew? A six game losing streak as the Hornets are now pointing to pretty one game and one game only, the season finale at North Augusta.

Will Williston Elko be challenged this year? I think not. The Blue Devils have more weapons then most police forces and continue to put up mind boggling numbers. Their lowest point total this year is 40. They finish out the regular season against Wagener Salley (70 points?) and then Blackville Hilda. Usually the Fighting Hawks are good enough to win or make it interesting, sorry not happening this time around. If the Devils don't win a title I think it would be an upset.

I finally got a chance to see Butler play and I don't think they're that far off. Will they finally win this year, probably not. Yes, Westside is having a down year, but the Bulldogs could have won that game had they caught a break here or there.

Top teams in no particular order: North Augusta, Williston Elko, Jefferson County, Lakeside, Hephzibah, Evans, Washington County and Lincoln County.

I also think Edmund Burke is one of the best stories in the area. Undefeated after a big win over Memorial Day on Friday. The Spartans could win a title in the Georgia independent ranks this year.
