Consumer Reports has an article this month on one of my favorite money savers – buying a freezer.
I’ve learned that buying in large quantities when an item is on sale is the way to go. No more creating a menu then making a shopping list! I check what is on sale and what I have coupons for, then create a menu from those items and what I have in stock.
It’s a way to save on some of your produce also. Buy the produce (broccoli, green peppers, corn, peas, etc.) at low prices and in large quantities and freeze them!
Of course, if you don’t have a stand-alone freezer there’s not a lot you can do – your space is limited! In a side-by-side, you can’t fit a frozen pizza let alone extra groceries!
The article on Consumer Reports has a video buyer’s guide that details some of the popular models of both upright and chest freezers.
When you decide to buy one, check into the various tax incentives and rebates for freezers in addition to sales. The State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program is in the works and will distribute rebates up to $200 on Energy Star-qualified appliances from what I’ve read. Consumer Reports has some information on the
Rebate Program on their web site.
