This is for all you people who are 49 ... again. I admit it, I turned 50 this year. When I got the application in the mail for AARP, my husband laughed and laughed. Now I'm laughing, when I get discounts and he doesn't!

This is for all you people who are 49 ... again.  I admit it, I turned 50 this year.  When I got the application in the mail for AARP, my husband laughed and laughed.  Now I'm laughing, when I get discounts and he doesn't!

We knew you could use it for discounts here and there, but didn't realize how much it would add up.  For example, I have terrible eyesight and have tri-focals.  So they don't look quite as bad, I get progressive - you're talking major money when it all starts to add up.  Well, when I was getting ready to pay, they asked about any discounts and mentioned AARP.  Boy am I glad I had signed up - I got a 30% discount!  This paid for about 25 years of membership!

You can get discounts at restaurants, stores, entertainment, travel - you just have to ask!  For example, between October 8 - 19, save 40% off at Reebok and Rockport's U.S. Outlet Stores when you show your AARP Card.

For those of you that aren't "49" (and those of you who are), signing up for the different discount or bonus cards adds up.  Most of the grocery stores have them, as do a lot of the drug stores.  Using these cards in addition to coupons can add up to some substantial savings.  I have so many of these my key chain must weigh 2 pounds!

Someone mentioned a site to me the other day that will allow you to combine all your little key ring cards into one.  I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know how that works out.

Have a good weekend and remember to clip those coupons on Sunday!
