VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Valdosta say a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an outbreak of shooting at an apartment complex that left one man dead and wounded 10 other people.
Police identified the man arrested Wednesday night in the Sunday shootings, which took the life of 19-year-old Sidney Bivens, as Bernard James Sanders of Valdosta. They say he was arrested on a felony murder warrant without incident during a traffic stop near Lake Park, about 10 miles south of Valdosta near the Florida line.
Police Chief Frank Simons says Sanders is being held at the Lowndes County Jail without bond.
Sanders' father, Mark Stewart of Valdosta, said his son was at the scene of the shooting but wasn't armed. He said Sanders was shot in the leg as he tried to run from the gunfire.
Stewart said he is unsure whether his son has an attorney.
